- What is the LA Bike & Train Ride -

Our "7th Edition LA Bike and Train Ride" is a socially fun and slow biking event that begins at either the Moorpark Metrolink or Simi Valley Metrolink Train Stations, your choice.
Plan to bike from Moorpark thru Simi Valley into the San Fernando Valley and to downtown Los Angeles with our ending location at the famous Union Station.
We will be on roughly 30 miles of separated bike paths and 20 miles of bike lanes during our 57 mile route. There is only one major hill, that being the Santa Susana Pass. After that the route is a very gentle downhill towards downtown Los Angeles.
Our plans are to have restroom stops at Rancho Simi Park, Balboa Recreation Park and lunch at the famous Porto's Bakery in Burbank. Our ending location will be Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, across from Olvera Street.
We will then board one of the many Metrolink Trains back to our starting location.

- The Route -

The route begins at the Moorpark Metrolink Train Station at 8:30am for the 57 mile bike route. Plan to arrive by 8am to get situated and find a FREE parking location.
We will start uphill, sorry, on the rolling hills of Moorpark as we head eastwards to the Arroyo Simi Bike Path in Simi Valley. This will take us to the Simi Valley Train Station where we will meet up with those planning on a 45 mile bike ride at 9:45am.
The group will leave Simi Valley and head up the Santa Susana Pass (our last hill) and down into the San Fernando Valley. Our route hooks up with the Brown's Creek Bike Path and then the Orange Line Bike Path, both separated and safe paths. We will then head eastwards towards the Chandler Blvd Bike Path into Burbank for lunch at Porto's Bakery. Now heading southwards onto the LA River Bike Path with our goal of Union Station by around 3-4pm.
You should download the Ride w/GPS "LA Bike & Train Ride 57 Mile" turn by turn route directions to your cellphone and or Garmin device for CIBike Club Members. If you are not a club member then download this Non-CIBike Member Route Map. You should also print out the route slip just for back up purposes. If you haven't already, go onto your computer and join the FREE Member's Ride w/GPS for the Channel Islands Bike Club. If you do not know how to do this contact Mike Stewart or Kate Faulkner.

- What to Bring -

The route is basically a flat, except for the Santa Susana Pass, route from Moorpark to Los Angeles. There are many stop lights along the bike paths, so the pace is slow. However, there are very few places to stop for food and water.
Restrooms and water stops are at the Rancho Simi Park in Simi Valley, Balboa Recreation Area in the San Fernando Valley, Porto's Bakery in Burbank and Union Station in downtown LA.
That being said, bring the following:
  • Water
  • Food
  • Cash
  • Credit card
  • Cell phone
  • Touring/Mountain bike shoes
  • Layers of clothing.
  • Route slip and map
